Also this year, 8th and 9th of November, Pro Loco of Mirano have organised the famous Holiday of Goose in Mirano near Venice (Festa dell’oca a Mirano Venezia).

All the main streets and the principal places of the city will have customs, banquettes, products make with the nice feathered.

However, the central event will be the Game of Goose, Sunday the 9th, in the main place near the church.

The big board consists of a track with consecutively numbered spaces, and is arranged in a spiral with the starting point at the outside. Each player’s piece is moved according to thows of one or two dice. Scattered throughout the board are a number of spaces on which a goose is depicted; landing on a goose allows the player (here the team of players) to move again by the same distance. Additional shortcuts, such as spaces marked with a bridge, move the player to some ohter specified position. There are also a few penalty spaces which force the players to move backwards or lose one or more turns, the most recognizable being the one marked with a skull and symbolizing death; landing on this space results in the player being sent back to start.

In the Game of Goose of Mirano, the teams of players are six: Mirano and the five little communities of Scaltenigo, Vetrego, Zianigo, Campocroce e Ballò.

All the restaurants prepare special plates with gooses. So it’s for Villa Mocenigo, with a traditional and extra menù with patè, risotto, hand made pasta, roast gooses and other specialities.
